Colowyo C-1981-019
16 November 2005 ~'
Pg 4/5
Backfilling and Grading (cont.): -The truck dump area for spoil at the edge of the
East Pit has reached its maximum height at this point. The spoil will now be hauled to
the edge of the Section 16 Pit for final reclamation of that pit.
Support Facilities: -The facilities area was in good condition at the time of the
inspection. No problems were noted with the area,
-The Gossard Loadout was also in good condition at the time of the inspection. Work
had been done to clean out the train tunnel. The train tunnel material was placed
by the Rail Loop Pond and needs to be hauled to the pit for disposal.
Topsoil: -Approximately 100 acres of the East Pit has been topsoiled this year. The last
portion that was topsoiled was live-hauled from the advancing west pit,
-All of the topsoil piles observed were well vegetated and stable, No erosional
problems were noted on any of the piles. All of the piles had topsoil signs in place.
General Mine Plan Compliance: -There was not much reclamation going on in the
West Pit at the time of the inspection. Currently, the operator is removing coal from
the X-seam and the A-seam, removing overburden from the C-seam and drilling the
B-seam coal.
Fish and Wildlife: - A large bull elk was on the edge of the pond on the west pit fill.
-There were several deer (a buck and several doe) around the East Taylor Pond.
- A fox was seen running from the embankment of the Gossard Pond and another
was seen catching a mouse on the other side of the pond by the entrance to the
train tunnel.
-There was a herd of approximately 100 elk on the northern edge of the East Piton
the old reclamation, There were also several coyotes in the same area.
Revegetation: -The approximately 100 acres that have been topsoiled this year are
scheduled to e reseeded next week (the week of 21 November 2005).
- The reclamation on the older portions of the East Pit remain well vegetated and
stable. There was one area that was burned, however. See the heading "East Pit Fire
Area" for more details.
Excess Spoil: -The West Pit spoil pile appeared to be stable at the time of the
inspection. There were no signs of cracking or settling in the fill. No erosional
problems were noted. The lower portion of the pile has been reclaimed and is well
vegetated and stable. The upper portion of the pile is truck-dumped spoil. The
reclamation plan calls for the top 75 feet of this pile to be hauled to the West Pit to
achieve AOC.
-The Streeter Fill appeared to be stable at the time of the inspection. There were no
signs of cracking or settling in the fill. The Streeter Fill is well vegetated and no
erosional problems were noted.
