Revegetation
Revegetated areas continue to show excellent establishment of the permanent seed mix.
Annual weeds are also present but provide shade and shelter to desirable seedlings and
prevent excessive drying of the soils. Shrub transplant mortality continues to be low at this
time, Transplant species were observed on the RDA and in the reclaimed portal area. One
exception to the early success of the revegetation is the recently reclaimed areas of the
Refuse Disposal Area, especially on the west-facing slope. Sunflowers and kochia are
abundant in this area with little sign of species that comprise the permanent seed mix. Close
monitoring of this area in the next two years may be necessary to ensure that the permanent
seed mix becomes established. This area is identified on Map 33 as the area south of the
annotation 30A that identifies the West Refuse Pile Collection Ditch.
Overall, areas inspected appeared in excellent condition for the summer season with the
noted exception.
4
