These <br />were selected considering the "concephial" design described above as the base case, with variations <br />aimed at specific questions. The selected site was in a valley south of the Colony Plant Site, with <br />slopes in the three major prototype pile directions (north facing, south facing and east facing). The <br />fourth aspect, west facing, was considered to be similaz to an east facing slope. The site of the plots <br />was selected at about Elevation 7800 feet to approximate the average elevation of the prototype pile <br />(E17500 to E18100 feet). <br />The 6-cell sloping plots were installed flush with the natural hillsides on three key aspects, <br />north facing (wettest environment), south facing (driest environment) and east facing (intermediate <br />moisture, and largest surface area of prototype spent shale pile).
