Are there any signs of instability? -----N/A
Assess the overall chance of an individual being hurt due to rockfall or falling from the
top. ------N/A
Do waste piles or backfilled portals exist? ------N/A
Impoundments:
Pond K, NW corner of the mine
Upstream slope: The inslope is the outslope of an old haul road. There are some small
erosional features but overall, the general condition of the slope is stable. Vegetation
exists on most of the inslope but it is not enough to prevent erosion, but as mentioned, the
embankment is fairly stable.
Crest of Embankment: The crest is the top of an old haul road and is approximately 50
foot wide for the entire length. The crest is stable and a 25 foot portion has been lowered
and graveled to act as the emergency spillway. There are no signs of cracking ,settling,
subsidence, or any other signs of instability.
Downstream Slope: The downstream slope, like the upstream slope is the outslope of an
old haul road. There are some erosional features and gullies, but is in very good condition
otherwise. Vegetation on the outslope is moderate.
Seepage: No signs of seeping, piping or wet spots have been noticed throughout the last
two years.
Outlet: The outlet is a CMP culvert that empties into an old wash. The overall condition
of the outlet is satisfactory. Rock riprap is present to lessen the energy and erosional
effects of the water exiting the culvert.
Spillway: As noted above, the emergency spillway is a transverse depression in the road
that could convey water over the top of the dam. However, since the reclamation of the
site altered the original dimensions of the pond, it is highly unlikely that the emergency
spillway will ever be put to the test.
Overall Condition: The overall condition of this pond is good. No conditions appear to
threaten the safety of the dam and the dam is expected to perform satisfactorily under
designed conditions.
3
