III. COMMENTS -COMPLIANCE <br />Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations made <br />during the inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the inspection <br />and the facts or evidence supporting the enforcement action. <br />This was a complete inspection conducted by Kent Gorham of the Colorado Division of <br />Minerals and Geology (Division) This processing and loadout site has been inactive since <br />June 2001 after the closure of the Lorencito Mine (#C-96-084) It remains generally inactive <br />at this time with the exception of maintenance activities. The weather was cool and breezy. <br />Ground conditions on this day were very dry. <br />Availability of Records <br />The public copy of the mine records is kept at the office of Peak Project Management (PPM) <br />The contact, address, and phone number for PPM is Ron Thompson, Peak Project <br />Management. 34115 County Road 20.8, Trinidad. All other <br />records were found in compliance as detailed on page 2a of this report. <br />H dry ologic Balance <br />Pond 7 held a small <br />amount of water below <br />the lowest hole on the <br />primary riser. Water <br />was discharged from th<~ <br />outlet pipe until it was <br />empty. Pond 6, a ~~~~=R ~`J~~~>~..' ~""''~`'~ <br />non-discharging pond, held a small amount of water and pond 4 was observed dry. Both <br />west mine containments were also dry. The ditch on the north side of the development <br />waste pile requires maintenance due to sediment bwld-up. Ditches flanking the Purgatoire <br />Rroer were observed in good condition. One culvert at the corehouse and two culverts at the <br />explosives storage area have been removed and the drainage converted permanently to an <br />open channel. This work is included in the pending bond release (SL-02). <br />Processing Waste <br />The 100-year ditch was traversed around the refuse disposal area and found in good <br />condition Downdrains that flank the valley fill also appeared in excellent condition Some <br />
