Processing Waste
The Refuse Disposal Area (RDA) north of the highway was traversed on foot. Now that
equipment is at the site, the operator has created sumps at the top of the two downdrains
adjacent to the fill. These sumps were full of sediment from the recurrent storm events of
late. The 100-year ditch appeared in good condition but should be cleaned of rockfall and
sediment as ground conditions allow. Large sediment deltas are building up again at the foot
of each downdrain. Reshaping and reclaiming of the pile surface will assist in minimizing
storm runoff and erosion.
Suaaort Facilities
The operator was loading the "grasshopper conveyors" located along the main access road
onto flatbed trucks for removal from the site. These structures are included in the cost
estimate and those removed are eligible to be included in any future bond release. Other
facilities remain unchanged since the last inspection.
Subsidence
The collapse hole at the West Mine appears now to have a bottom at about six feet below
the surface. The protective fence has fallen over and should be repaired as soon as
possible.
Overall, the site appeared in compliance and good condition for the summer season.
