MINE ID M-1985-200 INSPECTION DATE; 10/20/2006 INSPECTOR'S INITIALS: CMR
This inspection was conducted as part of the normal monitoring and enforcement inspection process that the
Division Reclamation Mining & Safety (Division) carries out on all permitted mines in Colorado at least once
every four years. Chris Rowe from the Division carried out the inspection. The mine is located just north of
Fort Morgan, near the South Platte River. This is a 9.2 acre mine site. The last inspection was in September
2003.
This site does not appear to have changed much since the last inspection. There has not been any mining at
the site in a number of years. The site has an approximate 5 acre somewhat triangular shaped pond. The
slopes on the south side of the pond are steeper then the reclamation standards, these will need to be
regraded to at least 3:1 or less steep prior to any permit release (Rule 6.3.4(1)(d)). The slopes on the other
sides were all less steep then 3:1. The water edge and upland areas appear to have naturally revegetated.
There is a combination of grasses, annual weeds, cottonwoods, and a few Russian Olives. The Operator will
need to get more grasses established, and control the annual weeds per the reclamation plan prior to any
permit release. The Russian Olive tree is on the state list of noxious weeds and will need to be eradicated prior
to permit release of the site. There is a berm made of overburden and possibly topsoil along the north and east
side of the pond. There is another old gravel pond to the west, separated from the permitted site by an
approximately 50 foot wide dyke.
There were two problems noted during the inspection (please see the next section for required corrective
actions). There was not an entrance sign (Rule 3.1.12(1)), and there did not appear to be any permit boundary
markers (Rule 3.1.12(2)).
Responses to this inspection report should be directed to Chris Rowe at the Division of Mining, Reclamation
and Safety 1313 Sherman Street, Room 215, Denver, Colorado 80203, phone number 303-866-4922.
Inspection Contact Address
NAME:
OPERATOR: Cynthia L.
