Response and Corrective Action Documentation for the
February 3, 2005, Loveland Pit, M-2000-034, Inspection Report.
r'
Dear Ms. Crosby,
This letter will address problems and provide documentation for the corrective actions taken at
the Lafarge West Inc. (Lafarge) Loveland Pit. The Loveland Pit is comprised of two properties,
west of St. Louis Road is the St. Louis property owned by Flatirons Company, and east of St.
Louis Road is the Reichert property owned by Mr. And Mrs. Robert Reichert.
As stated in the observation section of the February 3, 2005, M-2000-034 report, three
stipulations were placed on the operator when the permit was issued on Apri130, 2001. The
Division of Minerals and Geology (DMG) have stated that no documentation has been provided
indicating that these stipulations have been complied with by the operator. These stipulations
pertain to both properties.
I. Stipulation Number I was for the operator to implement a bank swallow protection plan
at the Loveland Pit. This stipulation was required by the Division of Wildlife (DOW).
Response: On May 10, 2005, Lafarge employed Habitat Management, Inc (Habitat) to
determine the best procedures and describe an appropriate bank swallow protection plan for the
stockpiles located at the Loveland Pit. Habitat stated that by decreasing the steepness of the
stockpile slopes from near vertical to greater than 1.5 horizontal to 1 vertical, the bank swallows
will not nest in the stockpiles. Habitat suggested we check each pile for swallow nests, and then
decrease the slopes.
LAFARGE WEST INC. -Lafarge Construction Materials
1800 N.
