Mr. Steven G. Richardson
Mined Land Reclamation
June 3, 1981
Page Two
d. Area 9 (1978 submittal) - Power substation - Areas 9 and 17 are both
part of a larger approved area of disturbance for the surface process-
ing facility. This area of disturbance is on the brow of the shale
ridge and consequently very little (0 to less than 3 inch average)
topsoil-like material was present. All the existing material has been
utilized in the leveling activity for that site. Upon reclamation,
topsoil-like material will be provided. Areas 6 and 7 (1978 submittal)
have deep topsoil and are the likely sources of topsoil for the re-
clamation of this area. Details will be provided in the update.
3. Area 16 (1978 submittal) - Communications facility - The existing area
of disturbance was similar in nature to the above (Areas 9 and 17).
Since it is a very small area, the small amount of additional topsoil
will be provided at the time of reclamation.
4) The only significant areas of disturbance since the 1978 submittal have
been the surface process area, the heater/treater expansion, and the park-
ing lot at the guard gate. Except for the heater/treater, very little
topsoil-like material existed and was used totally in the leveling of
those sites. The topsoil-like material from the heater/treater will be
moved to a more appropriate storage location.
Ed Baker inspected the Logan Wash site the 22nd of Play as part of our future
planning effort. His plan for these areas seeded last fall is to complete the
seeding according to the approved mix in those areas this fall, but not to
revegetate until two more years of monitoring indicates that this is necessary.
Actions are being taken to protect those areas seeded last fall from intrusion.
We will be able to assess the effect of livestock in about one month.
If you have any questions, please contact Ed Foy at 244-3234.
Very truly yours,
RET:pmr
cc: E.
