.
PAGE 2
The sedimentation pond on the 113 mine was certified, however the
certification statement, which was on a seperate sheet of paper from
the drawing, did not reference the pond either by name, exhibit or
drawing number. The pond will be recertified and this will be
corrected.
The air emissions permit is current.
The certificate of liability insurance is good through May of 1992
and had adequate coverage.
The haul road certification was on E11e.
The field check began with the haul road. The road from the bridge
to highway 133 is paved. Straw bales are being used to prevent
sediment from the road from entering the North Fork of the Gunnison
river. The current configuration of the road allows sediment to run
down both sides. The road is scheduled to be repaved in the near
future and it will be sloped to drain only to the inside so the
sedimentation can be better handled.
The mine identification sign was on the access road, however it was
not at the entrance. It will be moved to the entrance of the road at
the junction with 133.
The pond at the 113 mine contained water but was not discharging. The
emergency spillway was not the same as the drawing. It appears it
had been disfigured during sediment cleanout from the pond. This
will be corrected.
Perimeter markers were present around most of the disturbed area
however more need to be installed. This will be done.
There are no stream buffer signs on the section of the mine along-
side the North Fork of the Gunnison, Since perimeter markers and a
fence are already present along most of this section and more
perimeter markers will be installed, these should adequately define
the disturbance boundary and stream course buffers will not be
needed.
Only a small, area at the base of the mountain, remains of the
disturbance from the 111 mine. Arco has overlapped the other. This
part of the mine has a different access than the li3 and even though
perimeter markers identify the area as the Bear mine, there is not a
mine identification sign. A sign will be installed at the beginning
of the remaining disturbance. This area is vegetated and is expected
to receive a final release next year.
The 112 mine area, which was reclaimed in 1982, has a sedimentation
pond still in place. The pond is receiving regular inspections but
it appears it has not held water for some time. The entire stcucture
including the impounding area has a good cover of grass. The
principal spillway, which is a metal pipe, needs to be cleaned. A
small topsoil pile remains in the area for final reclamation of the
