The dam at Pond E was stable and there was no discharge, although the pond level was
about the level of the weep hole in the discharge structure.
The dam of Pond A was stable, although heavily trampled by cattle. The water level was 24"
below discharge. The emergency spillway was clear. The vegetation upstream of pond A
was excellent although a few thistles were encountered.
There was a great deal of thistle and some whitetop along and in ditch PD-1, especially
where it meets ditch PD-2. There was also thistle on the south-facing slope of the
reclaimed 720 pit area (sloping to the pond A drainage), especially on the contour furrows.
The east-facing slope of the reclaimed 720 pit was stable and virtually weed-free. Likewise
the west-facing slope, although there are some thistles.
Abundant thistle occurs in the low area upstream of pond B. The pond B dam was stable,
discharge pipe clear and the emergency spillway clear. Some water remained, about 36"
below discharge level.
The former explosives area was stable and cleaned up, with good revegetation. There were
patches of thistle on the facilities area pad.
Pond C was just a mud puddle. The dam was stable.
Pond D contained some water below the discharge level. The dam was stable and well
vegetated.
There has been some erosion on the east-facing slope of the Marr pit facing the facilities
area. The slope east of the road was stable and well vegetated, although some thistle was
noted.
At the Marr loadout, the road was in good repair. The gate was locked and the signs still
need to be updated like the signs at the main mine entrance. The ditch along the north end
of the pad was clear and contained water. The pond contained water (and ducks). The
pond embankments were stable with no erosion. The ditch along the railroad grade
contained water. Vegetation was pretty good {including sagebrush) but there was some
thistle and I had seen Russian knapweed there the previous fall.
Records were checked at the office of NW Colorado Consultants in Steamboat Springs. See
the attached sheet for details.
