2
Coherex - FACTS AND PRODUCT DATA
HUMAN LIFE AND OTHER SAFETY CONSIDERATIONS
Coherex has been tested for oral toxicity. Its LD50 was found to
be greater than 16 grams per kilo of body weight, which is
considered "practically nontoxic".
Coherex has been tested in accordance with the Code of Federal
Regulations Title 16, Sections 1500.3 and 1500.41 and is NOT
considered to be an eye irritant nor a primary skin irritant.
Coherex is noncorrosive, and it will not track out onto other
surfaces after drying.
,/ Coherex has a flash point about 400oF which indicates it is neither
,~f( flammable nor combustible by regulatory definitions (OSHA, DOT).
~/ Flammability tests on Coherex reveal the emulsion cannot be ignited
~+ by either the direct flame method or the hot surface method.**
p./ **Minimum ignition temperature determined using the Godbert-
/~Q(` Greenwald Furnace developed at the U.S. Bureau of Mines, Bruceton
Station, Colorado:
WATER QUALITY CONSIDERATIONS

Coherex is a safe, stable, concentrated, nonvolatile water emulsion
consisting of approximately 60% resins and 40% wetting solution.
The resins are the film forming, dust binding portion. Coherex is
manufactured to strict specifications that must pass ASTM and
AASHTO test procedures.
These Coherex resins are in suspension in the water, and are not
water soluble as the components of most other dust control agents.
Therefore, Coherex will not leach out such as many other dust
palliatives do.
Coherex has been bio-assayed for. toxicity to fish and when diluted
~ + +.. This means that 50% of the fish survive for 96
hours, and any amount of Coherex below 90ppm will not kill the fish
no matter what the duration of the test s
*Tests were run on important fresh water families (trout, salmon,
minnows, sunfish, bass, etc.)
Witco had fish toxicity testing conducted by outside sources as
early as 1973, and again during the late 70's and also in the
1980's.
The resins which constitute Coherex would sink within a short
