He described their location
but he w;as not present at the inspection. Sandy and I walked the entire drainage
where Mr. Saunders said the subsidence holes were but we were only able to find
one. The hole was approximately nine feet deep (ai the deepest point), 15 feet
across and 10 feet wide. It was approximately 20 feet east of a historic shaft opening
(possibly a vent shaft) and appeared to be a collapse of that shaft (since the shaft
went ran from the surface opening to the east). Dr. Corley was present, at the
request of EFCI, to survey the area. The coordinates he provided indicate mat the
extent of the collapse was over a pillar along the 1-south-mains. We were not able to
find the second subsidence hole as described by Mr. Saunders.
It is the opinion of the Division that the subsidence feature was not caused by mining
at the S ~uthflelci ~Aine it ~~~1~~~~r~•s `~~~ hr= ~~a~ is~d by o hlStorlC mine shaft Collapse.
ti ,b , i t i7 ~ S ~ \r ., a'
'•'' v .>'
.~
~.
,- ~',
=..
,•R. .1.
