Implement spill and spill-path monitoring, if necessary. <br />8.0 <br />9.0 <br />Flrtergency Rescue and Frst Aid <br />Appropriate medical help should be sought, however, each worker should be <br />familiar with general first aid end emergency rescue procedures. <br />In emergency situations, the rescuer often becomes a victim because the proper <br />precautions have not been taken before attempting a rescue. f_rttergenty rescue <br />procedures training are provided to all employees. All employees are also be <br />trained in the location and use of. rescue equipment. <br />Spill Mitigation and Reporting <br />9.1 Clean-uo end DetoxifLcation <br />The emergency response program includes specific training inclean-up and <br />detoxification for selected employees. Employees specially trained will be <br />on site 24 hours/day, 7 days/week. In the event of a spill, these <br />employees will be immediately dispatched to the ska to assist in clean-up <br />and detoxification efforts. Appropriate equipment will be available to <br />detaxify solutions and to transport any spilled material br ultimate disposal <br />in accordance with applicable laws and regulations. In addition to clean-up <br />equipment, portable instrumentation are available to detect and measure <br />HCN gas, as well as cyanide which may have entered any watercourses. <br />In the event of a potentially hazardous material spill, the plan will be to <br />contain, detoxify (if necessary), and clean up. Detoxifying agerrts for <br />cyanide antl acids will be kept available at the mine for use. <br />Clean-up team personnel are trained in the proper detoxification procedures <br />for each type of material. Acids used on site can be neuvalized with the <br />addition of lime and water, Lime can be added directly to the spill area In <br />the powder form. <br />For cyanide detoxification, Calcium Hypochlorite will ba used. <br />If Calcium Hypochlorite is used, it will be necessary to maintain elevated pH <br />levels (8-11) for the reaction to occur. In addition, cyanogen chloride gas <br />can be generated. This gas is highly toxic and care will be taken to keep <br />the area wall-ventilated. Alkaline chlorination can be accomplished using <br />9 <br />
