ID: JUL 255 15 29 No .015 P.03 <br />safety of employees and the engineering design of buildings associated with <br />processing and development. In addition to MSHA regulations and <br />Inspections, CC&V has a Safety Officer who provides safety and training <br />courses to employees. This person also has the responsibility for the day- <br />to-day inspection and correction of worker pertarmance. Prior to an <br />employee pertorming assigned duties, the person is trained to understand <br />safety measures. With adequate training end knowledge of safety <br />measures, most accidents can be avoided. <br />The Safety Officer conducts training for appropriate indtvlduals concerning <br />sate handl(ng, clean-up, and emergency medical treatment for the various <br />materials used at the proJact. New employees are instructed upon hiring. <br />Periodic refresher courses are given. Training will be performed throughout <br />the life of the mining activity, as appropriate. <br />7.0 <br />AcUvRies in the Event of a Spill <br />A spill of chemicals will receive Immediate and Judicious action. Thla plan is an <br />outline of procedures to be followed in the event of en accident or spill of on-efts <br />materials. <br />7.1 Fuel and Ammonium Nitrate <br />IN THE EVENT OF AN ACCIDENT, SPILL OR LEAK, THE FOLLOWING <br />STEPS ARE TO BE FOLLOWED: <br />a. Immediately extinguish all open flames and smoking in the general <br />area. <br />b. Attempt to stop or contain the flow of material only if there Is no <br />danger of combustion. If there is a danger of combustion, <br />immediately clear the area. In attempting to stop or contain <br />ammonium nitrate, a dust respirator should be worn. <br />c. In the case of an accident, administer first aid end medical treatment. <br />d. Notify immediate supervisor and Safety Officer. Supervisors are to <br />report directly and without delay to the Operations Superintendent or <br />acting Dury Officer. The Operations Superintendent or Satety Officer <br />will take further corrective action. <br />e. Begin clean-up activities promptly. Fuels should ba carefully pumped <br />back Into properly vented storage containers. AN contemineted <br />material should be collected In barrels end disposed of in a manner <br />6 <br />
