r
k
Animas Aggregates, Inc. is applying for an Army (404) Permit in resp~~nse to an
inspection conducted by the Division on June 11, 1485. There was a concern by
the Division that the indentation of the river channel caused by the breaching
of the dike/berm`of the 1977 Excavation (pond) would cause off-site ~arosion.
However, if the proposed dike restoration project would create simil•~r or
worse problems, its benefits are not apparent. Also, it seems that if the
river had removed the original dike/beret structures, the restored di{:e~s will,
in time, also be affected.
In your opinion, would the dike restoration project create more offs~ite
effects than the current channel configuration? \
Perhaps the 1977 Excavation area can be riprapped to prevent further
downstream effects.
Your professional opinion is highly respected. It appears as though our
geomorphologist shares your concerns. The goal of this correction ins to
minimize, not create, offsite adverse impacts resulting from the min~ng
operation.
Enclosed are the materials you had requested:
A. a copy of the original permit
B. a copy of the amended permit
C. a copy of the Minerals Rules and Regulations.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Sincerely,
~L ??~ ~.
Camille M.
