The team determined that, other than the minor maintenance concerns mentioned above, <br />coal handling and storage facilities at the Deserado Mine have been designed, <br />constructed, and maintained to prevent the occurrence of offsite impacts. The team did <br />not observe any instances where runoff from the coal handling and storage facilities was <br />not being treated (e.g., coal fines and sediment outside the permit boundary) Further, any <br />diminution to water quality and quantity was not evident and the potential for erosion and <br />siltation, as well as air pollution, was clearly controlled and minimized. No impacts to <br />water or land resources outside the permit boundary were found. Consequently, no <br />offsite impacts occurred. <br />The team concludes that the Colorado-DMG is ensuring that offsite impacts from coal <br />handling and coal storage facilities at permitted mine sites are being prevented. <br />
