2
1
Ill. COMMENTS • COMPLIANCE
Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations made
during the inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the
inspection and the facts or evidence supporting the enforcement action.
Reclamation
There were no signs of slope instability at the Mine No. 1, Mine No. 3 and the loadout areas.
Reclaimed slopes were well vegetated except for the recently backfilled Mine No. 1 portal azea.
Noxious weeds did not appear to be a problem. Reclaimed ponds P-1, P-2, P-3, P-4, P-5, P-6, P-7 and
P-8 aze not vegetated very welt, although no erosional problems were observed. A seep was located
along the county road about 200 feet east of the Mine No. 3 portal azea. There was a sulfur smell
associated with the seep and the Feld pH was measured to be 9.2. It was not cleaz whether or not the
seep was associated with any mine disturbance.
The mine site has several places where runoff from undisturbed land goes across disturbed land. The
only problem seems to be neaz the reclaimed substation on the north side of the county road. At this
location, rocks and sediment have covered the reclamation work.
Loadout
There was no activity at the loadout. There were no erosional problems and there were no problems
observed with noxious weeds.
Records
All of the records were checked and were found to be in compliance. Please refer to the attached
records checklist.
c:\ms97\ntc\insp0499
