The KeCler well is locaCed in the southwest '~ of the
southwest ~ of Section 36, Township 6 North, Rango 66 lJeat
(Figure 1). The well is approximately G,lOD feet south of the
Cache La Poudre River, approximately 3,700 feet southeast of
the filatiron pit, approximately 4,500 £eet southeast of the
Mobil pit and approximately 3,500 feet northeast of the Best
Way Permit. The Greeley No. 3 DiCch trends east-west about
1,600 feeC south of the Ketler well. A spillway for carrying
excess storm runoff rune north-south along the easC side of
35th Avenue between 10th Street and the Cache La Poudre
River. A low-yield spring coneributes water to this spillway
at the intersection of C Street and 35th Avenue.
The vicinity of Che Ketler well has,
predominantly rural. Agriculture has be

irrigated by the Predalve family until 1978. Corn was grown
on Che sandy soils which overlie the Laramie Formation. A
substantial amounC of irrigation is necessary to successfully
grow corn in Bandy soils. The land was sold by the heirs of
the Predalve family in 1978 or 1979 and the land was zoned
and developed commercial. A shopping center and relaCCd
development now occupies the lend. The south ~ of Section 2,
TSN, R66W (Figure 1) hae also been Caken ouC of agriculture.
This area is now residential.
Only a small amount of land is still irrigated in the area. A
small alfalfa field ed~acenC Co the Ketler property on the
west is presently being irrigated. In addition, a small
alfalfa field to the east of Che Ketler property is being
irrigated. The amounC of water applied to these fields is not
known. According to Mr. KeCler, the water level rises in the
t'wu shallow wells north of the problem well whenever the
Field to the weaC is irrigated. The water Level in Che deep
well has not responded to the application of irrigation
water. These are the only known irrigaCion areas in Che
immediate vicinity of the Ketler wall.
