FROM
. 6.24.1x94 j4:40
Leonard Rine Consulting Water Engineers, Inc. LeonardRlon
Leslle M. Bothem
(8081 453-9589 / 20pb Alcott 61ree1 / Demor, Colorado ED211 --
tlordon w. Faeeaa
July 2, 1982
Mrs. Margaret Winter
Flatiron Sand and Gravel Company
Post Office Box 229
Boulder, Colorado 80306
Dear Margie:
This letter describes the results of en inveatigati.on made irl
response to a problem with a well owned by Bill KeCler. The
well is located at 3024 C Street, Greeley, Colorado: IC Ls 82
feet deep and was drilled prior to 1952. The well is one of.
Chree located on the property and has been used for domestic
purposes. The well has not been registered with the State,
therefore, no permit records are available. In the fall of
1981, the water level in the well dropped below the ptunp
intake and the pump scatted pulling air. Since that time, the
well has yielded no water. The other two wells on the
property are about 300 feet to C}te north. Both of these wells
are shallower and both will yield water.
A problem has also deve77~~oped with a well owned by Edward Rody
of 2836 C Street. Mr. RBdy's well is located at his house and
has been used for domestic pugpores. This well was drilled in
1961, is 123 feet deep and yfields 1 gpm. Depth to water was 5
feet: when the well was completed. The water level in Che well
started dropping in the fell of 1981. The well i s not dry,
btlC can only be pumped for 10 to 15 minutes before Che pumpp
starts to pull air. The pump musk then be shut off and a 1S
Co 20 minute wait is required to allow the water level Co
rise above the pump intake. To deCermine why Cliese wells are
drying up, we defined the local ground-water system and
looked for any land use changes, including Flatiron's pit,
which might have adversely effected the system. PertinenC
information wee obtained from the State Engineer's Office artd
from conversations with Che residenCs who live in the
affeoted area. Two aiCe visits to the area were made on May
13 end June 10, 1982. During the visits Ketler's wells were
inspected, all ditches and creeks in the area were visited
and recent land use changes were noted.
MydrOlOpy
Wa4r RIphL
ErtvlronmerNal Mulyala
Urban Dnlllape

P.
