Bowie No. 2 Mine: ne. 3
We continued the inspection and observed topsoil stockpile A (needs to be hydroseeded) and the
adjacent material storage area, topsoil stockpiles B & C and the adjacent material storage area,
pond B, and the haulroad entrance to the mine. The approved small area exemption between
pond B and the haulroad entrance is becoming well vegetated.
As noted above, the haulroad entrance to the mine off old State Highway 133 (approx. 300 ft.) is
the only section of the main haulroad which does not drain to ponds B or C. Straw bales aze
located on this stretch of road to filter any surface runoff which would drain to old State Highway
133. There was no visable evidence of off-site sedimentation in the road ditches along old State
Highway 133 (I returned on 7/1 unaccompanied to review these road ditches and culverts
between mine entrance and the eastern extent of the disturbed area).
We concluded the inspection with observations of the gob pile haulroad, gob pile area, upland
diversion above the gob pile, ponds C and D (gob pile pond), material storage area, topsoil
stockpiles D and E, and the coverfill stockpile. The gob pile road essentially east of the gob pile
does not drain to a pond but runoff is treated with straw bales. No evidence of off-site
sedimentation was found in this area. The gob pile road is graveled and in good condition, The
gob pile is being compacted as required. The upland diversion for the gob pile is functioning.
The cove~ll small area runoff exemption is being evaluated by DMG. This area will be
hydroseeded as noted above. There were no visable runoff problems noted at the coverfill azea or
the gob pile area. This concluded the inspection. Mr. Dudash conducted a close out meeting
where we discussed minor maintenance items and observations made during the inspection.
Please address any questions concerning this inspection to Henry Austin at (303) 844-1466 or e-
mail to haustin@osmre.gov
