• (Page 2)
MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID # M-77-231
INSPECTION DATE 3/4/98
OBSERVATIONS
This was a normal monitoring inspection conducted by
operator representative present. The site is located
south of Howard, Colorado along Kerr Gulch Road.

INSPECTOR'S INITIALS NA
Tony Waldron of DMG. There was no
approximately 3 miles east and 1 mile
The site is represented as a rectangular shaped permit area but the permit boundary markers
were never located and the mining disturbance is scattered around the site. The missing
boundary markers are being cited as a problem on page three of this report. The mine
identification sign was present at the site and contained the required information.
There was evidence of recent disturbance and it did appear that topsoil was being salvaged.
There appears to be two separate pits running nearly parallel and separated by a strip of
land approximately 100 yards wide. There was an area that appeared to have been reclaimed
on this buffer strip, approximately ll4 to 1/2 acre in size. Near the northern permit area
boundary there was a stockpile of material that appeared to be bentonite product along with
some smaller scattered piles. The map that is included in the permit application does not
clearly show where the affected acreage is located and also does not clearly show the
locations of topsoil stockpiles or product stockpiles. In addition, there is no reclamation
plan map. This is also being cited as a problem on page three of this report along with
appropriate corrective actions.
I & E Contact Address
NAME Pamela Wedige
OPERATOR First Bentonite Co. of Colorado
STREET 215 Teller
CITY/STATE/ZIP Salida, Colorado 81201
cc: Jim Stevens
^ CE
^ BL
^ FS
^ HW
^ HMWMD (CH)
^ SE
^ WQCD {CH)
^ OTHER
