McClane Canyon Mine, pg. 2
While we were at the parking area, Mr. Matthews explained an upcoming permit revision that
will require McClane Canyon Creek to be diverted beneath the haul road and back into its
original channel, which will reduce or eliminate the channel erosion that has occurred in its
present location. We discussed using a fall herbicide application to control cheat grass on the
topsoil stockpile and the soil material borrow area. We also discussed reseeding the undisturbed
runoff diversion south of the topsoil stockpile. This concluded the field inspection.
Mr. Matthews conducted a thorough office review of approved operating permits, and required
environmental monitoring records including: DMG permit C-1980-004 expires 7/6/2006 and
there is a 9/19/2005 letter from DMG Co the permittee requiring the permit renewal application
by 1/7/2006 (the permit includes 2 stipulations that are being met); DMG permit renewal
Proposed Decision dated January 6, 2005 (this renewal was delayed for several months pending
the ownership and control change from the previous permittee to CAM); 2004 Annual
Reclamation Report was submitted on time showing 9S acres disturbance at this site; liability
insurance current through 4/2006; sediment pond inspections and surface and ground water
sampling were current through the second quarter(June, 2005); NPDES permit effective through
8/31/2009 with the 2 approved outfall locations being the sediment pond spillway and
underground mine pumping discharge from the portal facility into the undisturbed area nmoff
bypass system ;NPDES dmr's through 8/2005 reporting no non-compliant discharges; 1/11/2000
SPCC Plan (Mr. Matthews is working with the petYnittee and Colot'ado Water Quality Control
Division to have this plan updated.); and the $300,000.00 CAM surety bond documents for this
site.
