III. Comments/Compliance
This was a partial inspection conducted by Jim Burnell of CDMG on the morning of
Thursday, January 20, 2005. This site was quiet and deserted. The weather was mild and
sunny, with a great deal of snow remaining on the ground.
At the East Mine, in the reclaimed area below the road showed no signs of off-site impact,
erosion or instability, although there was several inches of snow on the ground.
Over most of the length of the area between the reclaimed area and the river is a small
berm. This berm is intact, except at one low point, and there is no sign of any sediment
transport into the river the whole way along the East Mine area. The roughened, uneven
surface of the reclaimed area has helped prevent erosion.
The road ditches were filled with snow and ice. There had been some slumping of material
from above the road onto the new road surface.
At the Middle Mine, there were no signs of erosion or instability that haven't been there
before. Most of the snow was gone from this steeper, south-facing slope, although there
were patches of snow cover.
There was no erosion associated with the West Mine area. The pond was filled with snow.
The embankments were stable. The vegetation was excellent at the West Mine area.
Several inches of snow covered the ground.
