•
In order that the Division may complete the reclamation cost evaluation for the Stagecoach Stop
Pit the Division requests that the operator consider the options listed below and respond by June
30, 1998 with a preferred course of action.
Option A : Submit a request to appear before the Colorado Mine Land Reclamation Board at the
next available meeting to request a 5-year term of temporary cessation. Such request should be
submitted to the Division no later than May 29, 1998 and should comply with the requirements
of Rule 1.13.5 for temporary cessation. If this option is chosen, please be aware that the site has
already been "inactive" for more than 10 years. The Division will recommend a financial
warranty amount adequate to cover all planned reclamation costs, with the exception of
backfilling the pit to an elevation of 5004 feet.
Option B : Submit an application for a revised mining and reclamation plan to limit the depth of
excavation to 5004 feet until an approved temporary substitute supply plan or augmentation plan
can be demonstrated, and provide an alternate post-mining land use and reclamation plan. The
application for a revised mining and reclamation plan should be submitted to the Division no
later than May 29, 1998.
Option C : Provide evidence of an approved temporary substitute supply plan or water
augmentation plan for future evaporative loss at the Stagecoach Stop Pit.
Option D : Maintain the existing mining and reclamation plan. Provide a financial warranty
adequate to cover the cost of importing inert backfill material and backfilling the pit to an
elevation of 5004 feet.
In the absence of a response from your office by June 30, 1998 the Division will begin
calculating a reclamation cost for the Stagecoach Stop Pit according to the criteria listed above in
Option D. Please call me at(303) 866-3567 if you have questions.
Sincerely,
Thomas A.
