Seneca Mine, oe. 3
We reviewed applicable permit and environmental monitoring records at the mine office. The
review included: 1999 Annual hydrology report which indicates there were no NPDES permit
effluent limitation exceedences at any of the designated point source outfall locations for 1999,
NPDES / DMR's are current through the first 2 quarters of 2000, quarterly sediment pond
inspection reports are current through the first two quarters of 2000, the DMG permit expires
February, 2000, and the mid-term permit review was completed and sent to SCC on December 6,
1999, surface and ground water monitoring is current through the second quarter of 2000,and
finally, fill stability inspections are current, and Mr. Boulay will research how SCC may
discontinue these certifications as the fills, Joe Lake and Auger area E highwall area, have been
completely reclaimed and probably do not warrant quarterly or annual RPE certification. These
areas will continue to be inspected by DMG on a routine basis. This concluded the inspection.
No off site impacts were identified during the inspection, and SCC personnel should be
commended on both their contemporaneous reclamation efforts on the Wadge and Wolf Creek
Pit areas the last two years, and SCC's continuing efforts at diverse vegetation and shrub
establishment, wildlife habitat enhancements, and surface water runoff control and stability.
pleils~ address any questions concerning this report to Henry Austin at haustin _,osmre.eov or
(303) 844-1400 X1466.
