(Page 2)
MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID #: M-95-019
INSPECTION DATE: 08!24/01 INSPECTOR'S INITIALS: alw
OBSERVATIONS
This was a conversion pre-operational inspection conducted by Tony Waldron and AI Amundson of DMG along with Jackie
Carson of Baca County. The site is located approximately 12 miles east and 2 miles north of Walsh, Colorado. The pit is
situated along the south side of Bear Creek in the old alluvial terrace .
The site was properly posted and the boundaries were clearly marked. The pit is being mined in a north to south direction and
the northern end has been mostly reclaimed. Along the south side of the pit the excavation operations are nearing the
southern permit boundary. There is still a little room left before the pit will be completely exhausted so the operator is
planning on converting it to a 112c operation. Initially, the operator wanted to simply open another 110c pit adjacent to the
existing one, however, the division does not allow side-by-side 110 permit applications by the same operator.
The site is currently typical eastern Colorado rangeland dominated by short grass prairie and its accompanying vegetative
community of sage and yucca. The soils appear to be rather shallow and are underlain by unsorted sand and gravel. There
are no structures in the area that will be impacted by the expansion of this pit and the overall impact should be negligible. As
Bear Creek is adjacent to the site and does contain some running and standing water, the operator should commit to not
mining to a depth that would expose groundwater and staying out of the active channel of the creek with their mining
operations. The operator is in the process of preparing the conversion application for submittal to our office. No problems
were noted that would preclude the expansion of this operation.
I & E Contact Address
NAME: Rav Miller
OPERATOR: Baca Countv
STREET: 741 Main
CITY/STATE(ZIP: Springfield.
