(Page 21
MINE ID N OR PROSPECTING ID N M-80-228
INSPECTION DATE 06-27-96 INSPECTOR'S INITIALS SSS
OBSERVATIONS
This was a routine partial inspection of the Triangle One pi[ conducted to check compliance with corrective actions listed in the last
inspection report for this operation. The operation is permitted as a dry gravel pit approved to disturb 8.2 acres. The gravel is to
be extracted in several layers with reclamation proceeding directly behind the excavation on the lowest level.
Durango Construction, Inc. who succeeded to this permit last year, had intended to convert this permit to a 1 12 permit. Durango
Construction has now indicated that these plans have not worked out. New plans are to use the site for their concrete batch plant
location.
Two problems listed in the last inspection report still need to be corrected. Problem no. 1: Review of the permit indicates that the
power line through the site was not identified during the permitting process. The operator will need to address this land any other
structure within 200 feet of the proposed affected areal in their conversion application. Some of the power line poles are located
adjacent to highwalls created by the pit excavations. The operator will need to provide documentation that the power company
which owns the line is aware of the conditions at the site. The operator will need to provide a demonstration of slope stability for
any slopes which may adversely affect any structures or facilities within 200 feet of the affected area, or submit an agreement
between the operator and the owner of such structures which addresses repair or compensation for damages to these structures.
Problem no. 2: The topsoil stockpiles on site are covered with an infestation of thistle and other weedy species. The operator
should perform measures to eradicate these weeds and seed the stockpiles land any other weed patches within the permit areal
to stabilize these areas with perennial, desirable vegetation as detailed in the approved permit.
Durango construction indicated that weeds had been sprayed last year. This inspection of the site observed that the site is still
heavily infested with weeds and will require additional weed control measures this summer.
The Mine identification sign for the old operator has been removed. Durango construction will need to install a new mine
identification sign at the entrance to the site.
I & E Contact Address
NAME Ron Pettigrew
OPERATOR Durango Construction, Inc.
STREET P.0.
