e .I
S
III. COMMENTS - COMPl1ANCE
Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations made
during the inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the
inspection and the facts ar evidence supporting the enforcement action.
This was a complete inspection conducted by Joe Dudash of the Colorado DMG. Jim Stazk of the
DMG was also present. The operator was represented by Bill Bear.
Hydrology
No ponds were dischazging at the time of the inspection. The water level in pond B was a foot above
the primary, but the gate valve was closed, The water level in pond C was about 1 '/: feet below the
primary while pond D was dry. The gate valves on those ponds were closed as well. Pond
embankments appeazed to be stable. Spillways were functional. The sediment capacity of the ponds
was ample since ponds B and C had been cleaned out a few months ago.
All of the culverts and ditches azound the mine site were functional. However, a few items will need
maintenance soon. The outlet of culvert C-G4, that leads to the east end of pond D, will need some
cleaning, as does the culvert that goes under the main haul road where it intersects with the gob pile
haul road. Also, culvert C-C 12, that goes under the main haul road just below the portal bench, will
need cleaning soon.; ;
The straw bales aze in place at the designated SAE sites. However, one straw bale needs repositioning
along the entrance haul road.
There was only a little ponded water at the seep which is located to the west of the water tank bench.
The area was a little wet but no flo~x was observed.
Roads
All of the roads were passable at the mine site. The main paved haul road was in good shape. The gob
pile road was rather muddy neaz the top but was passable. The road to the water tank bench was snow
covered but passable.
Topsoil Stockpiles
There were no erosional problems with any of the topsoil stockpiles. The diversion ditch on the
northwest section of the main topsoil stockpile was functional. The collection ditches and straw bales
at that site were also functional. The straw bales at the gob pile and coverfill pile topsoil stockpiles
were in place. Topsoil stockpile signs were up.
