Revegetation <br />Qualitatively, the vegetation is <br />doing remarkably well <br />considering the regional dry <br />conditions that have persisted <br />so far this year. Sprouting of <br />western wheatgrass and cicer <br />milkvetch was present in most <br />revegetated areas. Drill rows <br />with significant grass sprouts <br />were obvious. Crested <br />wheatgrass was not apparent m <br />great numbers in areas where it <br />was inadvertently planted. <br />Diversity in general was <br />excellent, especially on the <br />reclaimed area of the former <br />portal Shrub mortality <br />continues to be low in the third <br />year following planting. <br />Ponderosa pine transplants <br />have grown as much as six <br />inches so far this season. <br />Extensive wildlife grazing of <br />these transplants was not <br />apparent Some of the tree and <br />shrub transplants have outgrown <br />the rabbit guards installed to <br />protect them. <br />_ , ..rt' <br />•r, <br />~••. r 9-- <br /> <br />Offsite Support Facilities <br />The outlying areas of the coal loadout. Monarch fan site. and Newlin Creek Topsoil stockpile <br />footprint remain effectively unchanged Ponds at the coal loadout were found dry with no <br />sign of any recent runoff. <br />Overall, the site appeared in good condition for the early summer season with no significant <br />problems noted. <br />Tree transplant.
