III. COMMENTS COMPLIANCE
Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations made
during the inspection Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the inspection
and the facts or evidence supporting the enforcement action
This was a complete inspection conducted by Kent Gorham of the Colorado Division of
Minerals and Geology. This former underground mine is reclaimed. Remaining buildings
and structures are approved to remain as permanent structures. Most of the snow from
recent storm events had melted except in shaded areas. The weather was cool and partly
cloudy.
Availability of Records
The public copy of the mine records is kept at the Office of the Las Animas County Clerk in
Trinidad. Noted during the records review was a new Volume 3 for accumulating mine
records. Recent attempts to ensure records are not misplaced have apparently worked as
numerous records and reports were found with other required documents. Recent reports
and documents were filed in the appropriate volume during the review. All records with the
exception of one report were found as required and as noted on page 2a of this report.
Please file the missing report at the next opportunity.
Roads
The mme access road was recently re-surfaced with crushed rock. Mine access road ditches
were found in good condition and rock check dams seem to be functioning as designed
along the western sections of the ditches. Road crossing #1 showed evidence of rutting due
to the lack of a sufficient base The operator should add rock base material to this ditch
crossing at the next opportunity to avoid excess sedimentation.
