A discharge permit has been obtained for this activity. Property owners <br />to the east had reported to the operator that they had experienced water level drops in wells <br />and ponds of about 4 feet. Mr. Chavez, a well owner about 1,000 to 1,5000 feet to the west, <br />reported drops in hie static water level during that time. He told the Division that he <br />deepened his well six feet to maintain production. Since that time, water levels have <br />returned to near their normal static levels. <br />The pit currently is situated east of the Meadow Island Ditch. The South Platte River is <br />located a few thousand feet to the east. Two ponds are located between the river and the <br />pit. Along the south side of the permit is an old irrigation well. <br />Direction of mining ie progressing toward the east. The shorelines on the north, east and <br />south aides of the active pit have been maintained at excellent grades of approximately 4: 1. <br />The southwestern corner of the pit is steeper and will require some grading to meet <br />reclamation standards. <br />A large topsoil stockpile is located in the vicinity of the southeast corner of the pit.
