(Page 3)
MINE ID 1l OR PROSPECTING ID fi M-1978-271
INSPECTION DATE 8!28!02
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS RCO
Active highwalls exist on the west end and south central portions of the pit. These highwalls are mined from below by
loader, resulting in vertical highwalls. Pitrun was observed being extracted from the south central highwall by loader and
truck during the inspection, The west highwall has been active recently, and there was a crusher set up there. Crushing
is an approved activity under this permit. A raised fuel tank was parked in the center of the pit. No fuel staining on the
ground indicating past spillage was noted. Fines appear to have been dumped against the perimeter highwalls at several
locations. The operator should clarify in annual reports if this practice continues and whether it is for purposes of
reclamation backfilling.
There is no reclamation performed yet, besides the slopes noted earlier. The pit floor is very large now that the pit has been
expanded in the past several years, and it would seem that reclamation could be performed on some slopes and much of
the floor. The site is approved for phased mining, and both phased and concurrent reclamation, The bond was recalculated
in 1999, to the present amount of $108,012. The bond is scheduled for review again, and the Division will notify the
operator if an increase is indicated. (The operator should note that timely reclamation can help keep the bond lower.
Conversely, topsoil degradation may result in a higher bond if the Division feels that it must be purchased and hauled in
to ensure successful reclamation.)
Please see the last parse of this report for the correction dates for the problems noted herein. There were no additional
items observed. All responses or questions about this inspection report should be directed to this inspector at the Division's
Durango Field Office. The address is: Division of Minerals and Geology, 701 Camino del Rio, Room 125, Durango,
Colorado 81301; telephone 970/247-5193, or fax 970/247-5104.
I & E Contact Address
NAME
OPERATOR
STREET
CITY/STATE/ZIP
Rock I.
