The Division used a GPS to map the features and plotted them on the Southfield mine
plan map. Each of the holes was along the edge of the development mining in an
area where pillars were not pulled. The Division then plotted the points on a historic
mine plan map from the Manley (Diamond) Mine and they lined up with a fan shaft
and an unnamed shaft. The hole in the drainage was directly over an area thot was
undermined.
It is the opinion of the Division that the subsidence features were not caused by
mining at the Southfield Mine. It appears they were caused by historic mine shaft
and/or roof collapses.
~, 3, S~~h~c~J ~~si~y
~ ~ - 3 gMwyD3 ~~
The second hole was in a drainage south of the refuse pile. The hole meosured
approximately 10'x15' across and approximately 20' deep. There was some
cracking on the down-slope portion of the hole approximately two feet from the
edge. This hole was approximotely 50 feet above (southwest of) an old fan shaft and
portal location.
