(BMRI) - San Lui:~ <br />DMG Permit No. M-88-112 <br />Response to 9\30-10\O1\93 Inspection Report <br />Dear Mr. Oehler: <br />This letter is written as a comprehensive response to the <br />Division's inspection report for the site visit conducted on <br />September 30 and October 1, 1993. <br />The following are significant corrections to the Divi:ion's <br />written report: <br />On pages 2a, 2b, and 2c, the mine identification and <br />inspection date are incorrect. The San Luis Project }colds <br />Permit No. M-88-112, and the inspection was conducted on <br />September 30 and October 1, 1993. <br />Observations <br />Page 2a, paragraph 3, sentence 1 states: <br />"Mr. Guyer states that he had been performing 1-..2 <br />gradation analyses per day on material used for t:he <br />compacted soil liner and drainage blanket, but that <br />since the material is very consistent he is now running <br />one per day." <br />As outlined in the technical specifications, gradation <br />testing is performed on a minimum of one sample per <br />specified volume of material for each type of materia]. being <br />placed;the number of gradation tests per day varies with the <br />construction activities taking place. <br />Page 2a, paragraph 3, sentence 2 states: <br />"He is doing one permeability test per acre on the <br />compacted soil liner and the results range from 7.06 to <br />108 cm/s with compactions of 97-101% (approved design <br />permeabilities are 10.6 cm/s)." <br />The approved design permeability of the compacted soil. liner <br />is a maximum of 1 x 105 cm/sec.
