This needed to be done &~om the portal down to the area known ae "Quarry <br />'Tows," t ditteattce of approximately !00 tbet. Sierra hired K9LAB Coseuttetioe w <br />perform the werkk. The photos below show the road work shortly before completion. <br />1C$LAB classed out move of the marble fines that had bees plaood along the outside edge <br />of the road by Sierra sad transported h up to the atsrble waste pile to the south of the <br />portal. KSLAB reset some ofthe jersey barrier that had fLllea over the hill along the <br />outside edge of the <br />toed,aad used <br />appropriately sized <br />marble blocks to sat <br />along the outside edge <br />of the road as well. <br />Thin provided s basin <br />between the outside <br />and inside edges of the <br />road within which fill <br />could be placed to <br />build up the <br />appropriate slopeurto <br />the hip. <br />1CSI,AB brought appaordmWly 300 cubic yards of all material 8otn Mud Gulch co build <br />ttp the outsido portion of the road. This material had buih up oa the uphill side of the <br />solvers at Mud Cittleh as a math of snow sNde std storm water erosion uphill from the <br />public toad. Periodic clean-art of the ettlvert intske over the years since the quarry <br />opened (1990) resuhed in s large stockpile ofthis material at Mud Uulch. The material <br />consisted oPManow Shale rubbla~ 2054, +12 Inch boulders, 20'6 +2" bouldere, end 60°/. <br />floes. Sierra has ntelntained the public road from Marble to the Yttk Quarry under <br />standards set by the t3umisos Cowry Land Use Change Pensit for the quarry operation. <br />Sierra purchased approximately 1 S00 yards of road base gravel tlom Roaring Fork Sand <br />and l3ravel in Carbondale and had h trucked to the site. Attet the Ell material was graded <br />to set the sbpa irMO the hill, the grand was placed to a depth of approximately 4 inches <br />along the entire S00 foot IenBth of the road KSLAIi cgtreuttcted a aedimem comrol <br />basin oa the iadde of the road m Quarry Town to otrllect atry sediment that is transported <br />down tha iaeide of she road. <br />
