III. COMMENTS -COMPLIANCE <br />Pg I/2 <br />Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations <br />made during the inspection. Comments in Section IV describe any enforcement actions <br />taken during the inspection and the facts or evidence supporting the enforcement action. <br />North Thompson Creek C-1981-025 <br />This was a complete inspection of the Norfh Thompson Creek Mine conducted by <br />Jim Burnell of CDMG on Monday, October 3, 2005; records were checked on <br />Tuesday, October 4, 2005. The minesite was quiet and deserted. Weather was clear <br />and very windy. There was a good bit of mud from recent rains. Fresh bear tracks <br />were noted in the mud of the road past the long pond. <br />Availability of Records: All of the necessary records were available at the Garfield <br />County Courthouse in Glenwood Springs. See the records checklist for more detailed <br />information. <br />Roads: The access road to the ponds, portal and flume area appeared to be stable <br />at the time of the inspection. There were no ruts or erosional problems noted <br />- The road from the portals to the treatment ponds was stable and well maintained at <br />the time of the inspection. <br />Hydrologic Balance: -The Long Pond contained water at the time of the inspection. <br />The pond appeared to be functioning properly at the time of the inspection. No <br />erosional problems were noted on the pond embankment. Both pipes were <br />discharging water, at about 50 gpm. <br />North Thompson Creek was running strong and turbid. <br />Pond T-1 contained clear water. Pond T-2 also contained some clear water. Neither <br />pond was discharging at the time of the inspection. There were no erosional <br />problems noted on either embankment. <br />Pond P-9 was stable at the time of the inspection. The pond contained a small <br />amount of water. Pond P-9 was not discharging at the time of the inspection. The <br />embankment was well vegetated at the time of the inspection. There were no <br />erosional problems noted on the embankment. <br />
