MINE ID k OR PFOSPECTING ID k M-87-012
INSPECTION DA-fE 1-28-2000
(Page 21

INSPECTOR'S INITIALS SSS
This was a routin. partial inspection conducted as part of the Division's routine monitoring program. Information was also
gathered at this inspection for use in recalculating the reclamation cost estimate. The cost estimate is recalculated to
update the costs and ensure the current financial warranty for this site is adequate to reclaim it per the approved
reclamation plan.
The mine identifir:ation sign and permit markers were in place, although a few more markers are necessary to adequately
delineate the boundary.
There are still Borne pit slopes that are steeper than 3:1, which is the grade at which the operator agreed to maintain the
slopes when the Flit is idle. These oversteepened slopes occur on both the north and south areas of the pit. The south side
has an estimated 800 - 1000 feet of average 20 foot high 1:1 pit slope, and an estimated 300 feet of 10 foot high 1:1
slope. The North side has an estimated 700 feet of 20 foot high 1:1 slope. All of these slopes need to be reduced to 3:1
or less by March 31, 2000 and maintained at that slope during the inactive mining period.
There is a set of ;scales and a scale house located on site. They are both set on concrete blocks near the entrance to the
pit. The permit does not mention location of scales and a scale house at this pit and will need to be revised to allow for
those structures. 13y March 31, 2000, the permit must be revised to allow for these structures, or they need to be removed
from the site. The reclamation cost estimate currently does not include costs far structure removal. The operator must
be aware that ms~ny modifications to the mining and reclamation operations must be approved by the Division prior to
commencement.
There is an above ground fuel tank stored at the site that is not placed in an adequate spill containment facility. This tank
either needs to be removed from the site or needs to be placed in an adequately constructed containment facility capable
of holding the contents of the tanks stored within the structure.
Responses to this inspection report should be directed to:
Division of Minerals and Geology, 701 Camino Del Rio, Room 125, Durango, Colorado 81301, Attn: Steve Shuey, phone
no. 970-247-506: .
I & E Contact Address cc: Tom Gillis, DMG
^ CE
NAME Kris DeGolver ^ BL
OPERATOR Southway Construction Comoanv.
