Culverts
The A-5 culvert that was plugged after last month's rain has been cleared. Culverts EM-1 and
EM-2 contain a few inches of sediment but are functioning. Other culverts are clear and are not
eroded at their outlet or inlet ends.
Sedimentation Ponds, Drainage Channels, and Flumes
Repair Schedule. Trapper has completed an assessment of the damage caused bythe heavy
rains of September 18-19. During the inspection Trapper provided its written repair schedule for
items found in the assessment. Trapper is commended for its timely preparation of this
comprehensive schedule. The schedule is a valuable reference for tracking Trapper's progress
in repairing the damages. The schedule is filed in the inspector's "General Correspondence"
file.
The schedule lists 41 items; about half of those were mentioned in last month's inspection
report. Trapper's work on the highest priority items (cleaning out ponds, flumes, and culverts) is
nearly complete. If weather permits, eroded areas around the ponds will be repaired this fall.
Reconstructed drainageways that were damaged will be repaired in the 1998 field season.
Trapper is commended also for its quick response to pond clean-outs. Trapper made a special
effort to quickly clean ponds by seeking out a contractor from as far away as Denver.
Condition of Pond Embankments and /nslopes. None of the ponds' dam embankments or
inslopes showed signs of significant erosion and there were no signs of differential settling. Only
the newest ponds, Oak #1 and #2, lack vegetative cover. Cleaning operations left the inslope on
the east side of East Pyeatt #1 pond too steep; regrading to a gentler slope is needed. The
inslope of Grouse #1 is Bullied in the pond's inlet area and could use repair, although this ranks
lower in priority than other repairs needed on Trapper.
Pond Water Levels, Discharges, and Sediment Levels. As shown in Table 1, the ponds'
water levels and discharges have dropped significantly from last month's levels. Trapper has
evaluated each pond's sediment level. Sediment in Oak #1 and East Pyeatt #1 has been
cleaned out, East Pyeatt #1 was being cleaned, and No Name #2 is scheduled to be cleaned
out if weather permits. All other ponds have adequate sediment storage capacity. Cleaning left
the east inslope of East Pyeatt #1 with a steep slope and regrading is needed.
Page 4
