HYDROLOGIC BALANCE
Ditches and Culverts -The perimeter ditches on the south side of Trapper in Ute Gulch are
in good condition.
No maintenance problems were found with culverts.
Pond inspection - Ponds are summarized in Table 1.
Pond discharges and conditions - Ponds were discharging in only the actively mined
drainage: No Name. Johnson. and East Pyeatt. All pond inslopes and embankments appeared
stable and were not Bullied. Where visible. each pond appears to have at least 60~ of its
capacity available for sediment storage. consistent with the permit application. Flumes
were in good condition.
Ground Water Monitoring Wells - The following wells had caps in place, were well-marked.
and surface casing was in good condition: GC-1. GC-2. GC-3. GF-1. GF-2. GF-3. GF-4, and GF-
5. Trapper recently repaired the casing of GF-4 about 10 feet below the ground surface.
This artesian well had been leaking at the surface. The repair job disturbed approximately
2.500-square feet of ground around the wellhead; the disturbance has been graded and
seeded.
BACKFILL AND GRADING
Trapper has recently reconstructed the drainage in upper East Pyeatt drainage where the
eastward advancing F-pit has passed through. The operator's representative explained that
the reconstructed drainage will not be seeded until springtime, consistent with Trapper's
successful past seeding practice for reconstructed drainages.
No problems were found in the ash dump area in Ash pit.
EXPLOSIVES AND SUPPORT FACILITIES
No problems were found in the explosives storage magazine. the ANFO loading facility, or
the facilities yard area. The hazardous waste storage area was in good order.
As brought up in the last complete inspection. blasting records now identify the nearest
dwelling by name. and are in proper order.
GENERAL MINE PLAN COMPLIANCE
The amount of area stripped ahead of the pits appears to comply with Trapper's approved
operation plan.
A weed that the operator identifies as Kochia (the annual weed summer cypress) covers
several tens of acres of first year reclamation at the south end of H-pit (near the north
end of D-pit). Trapper's approved weed control plan (Section 3.6.3.7 of the permit
application) calls for weed spraying not until at least the second growing season after
