III. COMMENTS • COMPLIANCE
Below are comments on the Inspection The comments include discussion of observations made
during the inspection Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the mspection
and the facts or evidence supporting the enforcement action
This was a complete inspection conducted by Kent Gorham of the Colorado Division of
Minerals and Geology (Division). The majority of the Golden Eagle mine is in its ninth year of
revegetation. Ground conditions were dry and the weather was warm and seasonal,
Availability of Records
The public copy of the mine records is kept at the office of Peak Project Management (PPM).
The contact. address, and phone number for PPM is Ron Thompson, Peak Project
Management, 34115 County Road 20.8. Trinidad, CO 81082. 719-846-4975. All records
were found in compliance as detailed on page 2a of this report.
Revegetation
The reclaimed, main facility area was found green and lush due to persistent summer rains.
A significant reduction in the abundance of scotch thistle was noted indicating some success
at controlling this undesirable weed species. Good initial establishment of the seeded
species was observed at the recently reclaimed NW-1 ventilation shaft. Annual weeds,
mostly sunflowers and kochia, were also noted. Annual weeds provide hydrologic cover in
the first few years after seeding but normally become less abundant due to increased
competition from the perennial, desirable plants in the permanent seed mix.
,. u . i -
.:M1
~.
