III. COMMENTS -COMPLIANCE
Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations made
during the inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the inspection
and the facts or evidence supporting the enforcement action.
Slides and Damage
The slide area above Pond 012 was viewed from the Pond 012 embankment. Significant
slumping is not evident since the time of the last inspection. The visible crack that has formed
across a large portion of the slide damaged area appears to be stabilizing or remaining the same.
There is no noticeable change at the slide area and no new evidence of movement or additional
damage.
The slide that occurred in the Neck Pit area on the side where former Haul Road D was located
appears to have stabilized. The slide area looks good with no evidence of further movement or
damage. SCC has graded out the area and flattened and removed the toe of the slope that was cut
during the construction and use of Haul Road B. The slide damaged location has been repaired
and at this time looks good,
Reclamation Success
The majority of the Yoast Mine looks very green due to good precipitation in recent months.
There are a few settlement cracks and some rill and gully formation in the Yoast South area
which are evident for the first time since backfill and grading in the south area was completed.
The rills and gullies and settlement crack noted during the Phase I bond release inspection of the
North Pit are also still evident. SCC is continuing to work to stabilize these locations and has
noted them on the 2007 Rill and Gully Survey.
