,. <br />I found that there is no well-defined channel in the bottom of Flume Gulch between the two <br />residences; there is only a v-shaped valley bottom with gentle side slopes. Stream banks <br />formed by deposition or erosion are not evident. Unirrigated alfalfa is grown throughout this <br />valley bottom. It appears that repeated cultivation could have smoothed out any stream channel <br />and banks that may previously have existed in this part of Flume Gulch. <br />During periods of high runoff, channelized flow (rather than sheet flow) could occur in the v- <br />shaped valley bottom. The Castor Gulch USGS 7'/z' topographic quadrangle, dated 1966, <br />shows an intermittent stream in this part of Flume Gulch. Awell-defined stream channel <br />occupies the Flume Gulch valley bottom immediately down-valley from the Talkington residence, <br />a few hundred feet from the currently designated Flume Gulch AVF. <br />Page 4 <br />
