buried in that location. She also stated that Holcim is pursuing the possibility of selling the CKD to another
entity and that, if that happens, the company may be able to discontinue disposing the material in the mine
area.
The area downstream of the cut 12 CKD disposal area was observed and a location for monitoring well was
discussed. Amine road and a steep natural slope to what appears to be the first terrace above the river
channel is immediately downstream of the cut 12 CKD/pit backfill area. It appeared that the oniv place
available for the well would be as close as possible to the foot of the slope and as far north as possible on
the terrace. The location discussed is near where the mine entrance road accesses the auarrv from the
auarrv office area, However, this location would not place the well as close as would be desirable to the
CKD disposal area. If Holcim can find a way to propose a down gradient well location closer to the disposal
area, it may be more desirable from the stand point of being able to sample around water sooner after it
has moved thorough the CKD disposal area. Such a location would better insure early detection of any
elevated parameters and provide more time to resolve the problem before the ground water would reach a
a point of compliance. There is not much distance between this disposal area and the permit boundary and
the Arkansas River channel.
Mr Posey suggested that Holcim could conside~lacina a monitoring well in an old CKD disposal area to
obtain ambient around water duality data.
The route of the proposed AM-1 Bear Creek diversion was observed. A short segment of the upstream end
is proposed to cross undisturbed rangeland within the permit boundary. The diversion would then cross an
area of backfilled and reclaimed quarried land released from the permit. Most of the remainder of the
diversion is orooosed to cross permitted land within and outside of presently approved affected land areas,
some of which has been mined and backfilled to near reclamation grade. The diversion outlet area was also
observed. It will outlet to a small drainage iust outside of the permit boundary. Holcim was informed that
land orooosed to be affected by the diversion that is outside the presently permitted area will have to be
added to the permit area by AM-1. The areas include; a small segment outside the permit boundary where
the diversion begins on state highway right-of-way; the portion that crosses previously reclaimed and
released land and that portion at and near the outlet outside the present permit boundary.
The outlet end of the diversion is orooosed to descend a steep slope on the east side of a small drainage.
This portion will require an adequate drop structure/s and an energy dissipator.
Ms. Abbott stated that Holcim had oniv drilled in one location in the east mine area to determine the depth
and thickness of limestone reserves and fault information. She said that she intends to drill the area more
extensively to determine overburden/reserve ratios and fault locations, which she believes are more
extensive than presently known.
related activity but the re-routing of a county road.
I & E Contact Address
NAME: Wendi C.
