= 1
t
• (Page 21 .
MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID ry M-1983-028
INSPECTION DATE 6-26-2001 INSPECTOR'S INITIALS SSS
OBSERVATIONS
This was a partial inspection conducted as part of the DMG monitoring program for permitted mine sites in Colorado.
Access to the site is by ranch road accessed through a reddish metal gate. The road has not been used recently and has
a dirt surface with bar ditches on both sides.
The mine identification sign was in place and in compliance. Permit boundaries are marked on the north and east sides
by fence lines. The operator will need to install a marker on the southwest corner to complete the boundary marking.
Approximately 4.5 acres of the west side of the permit area has been grubbed with the old vegetation piled along the north
side of the grubbed area. Approximately 2 acres of the grubbed area has been affected by excavation and stockpiling. The
excavated area is approximately an average depth of five to six feet in depth with estimated 2H:1 V slopes around the
perimeter.
A few musk thistle rosettes and a covering of annual weeds was noted on the disturbed area. The weed problem is not
bad at this time and the operator is encouraged to continue weed control efforts to prevent infestation of the site. The
non-excavated portion of the grubbed area does appear to have grass and forb revegetation occurring naturally, but weeds
do occupy this area as well and should be monitored and controlled as necessary.
Vegetative cover on the topsoil stockpiles was minimal. Revegetation efforts will need to be performed on the topsoil
stockpiles if they are not used for reclamation of the site by fall of 2001.
No significant erosional features were noted on the affected areas of the site.
In an effort to ensure the financial warranty remains adequate to reclaim this site per the requirements of the approved
reclamation plan, DMG has updated the reclamation cost estimate (copy enclosedl• Clearly, the site is under-bonded for
full site disturbance. However, only approximately half of the site is currently disturbed, and the operator indicated that
the gravel reserves at the site do not appear to be worth pursuing and that they would most likely reclaim the site this fall.
Therefore, before any additional excavation is to take place at the site, pursuant to Section 34-32.5-117141 of the Colorado
Land Reclamation Act, adequate financial warranty, in the amount of 524,232.00, must be submitted. If reclamation is
to begin this fall, then additional warranty will not be required at this time as the current financial warranty is adequate
to reclaim the existing disturbance.
Responses to this inspection report should be directed to Steve Shuey at the Division's Durango Field Office.
