i~..~. +
Excess Spoil
'~ - '.
__ ~ ~ .
~"-?~
Significant damage was noted in the west downdrain at Fill 8. Heavy flow has undercut
riprap in the upper section of this ditch. No damage or slumping was noted in the fill itself.
Fill? and Fill 9 also have some damage confined to the center of their downdrains. Drainage
from the terraces seemed to enter the ditches without incident. Fitl 7 damage in the east
downdrain is visible in the photo above.
Due to the runoff from what appears to be in excess of a 100-year storm event, no
enforcement actions were taken. However, the operator has agreed to send a letter to the
Division describing the timing and magnitude of measured storm events. damage caused,
and mitigation and repair measures that are proposed to restore drainage and function of
ditches and ponds, respectively. Overall, catastrophic consequences were avoided, in part,
due to the actions of Mr. Steele during the peak of the storm runoff. The operator,
particularly Mr. Steele, is commended in his efforts to prevent failure of ponds and valley fills
during this storm event.
