The operator
was contacted about the inspection and a time was arranged to jointly inspect the site. The operator's representative
named on page one was present throughout the inspection.
The site was identified by a permit ID sign posted at the entrance gate. Boundary markers consisted of roads, fencelines
and topographic features. Very little of the site is currently disturbed by mining.
The site wa: not active at the time of the inspection. The entrance area contained ahalf-acre of level gravel and old
asphalt pad, where past asphalt operations have occurred. The edge of the pad and much of the road shoulder near the
entrance pats are infested with knaoweed. Knapweed species are State listed noxious weeds. and must be controlled.
The existence of this weed on the site Doses a threat of spreading to other areas of the site. which will make successful
reclamation more difficult. This is noted as a problem in this report. The operator stated that the county had an active
noxious weei control praaram, and this area would be treated.
Sediment ani runoff control is accomplished by berming the edge of the operations pad, along the canal. The canal is
within the pr~rmit area, though pit operations are not to disturb it. It was noted that the canal and its banks were stable,
with no sedimentation or sloughing material. Unfortunately. a newly established patch of knaoweed was also observed
here on the r:anal bank. The operator must ensure that the county weed inspector treats this patch too. This is included
under the sa ne revepetation problem noted above
The highwall is steep, but is due to be further affected this season. Some of the pit slopes to the northwest are graded
to a gentle s ape. The material is sandy and droughty, and it remains to be seen how effective the revepetation efforts
are.
There were rip permanent structures on the site, though there were numerous parts and some debris, plus small portable
structures. ~-his is not a problem.
There were ro other items observed or discussed during the inspection, and no additional problems noted.
