III. COMMENTS -COMPLIANCE <br />Below are comments on the inspection The comments include discussion of observations made <br />dunng the mspecGon. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the inspection <br />and the facts or evidence supporting the enforcement action. <br />This was a complete inspection conducted by Kent Gorham of the Colorado Division of <br />Reclamation, Mining, and Safety (Division). This processing and loadout site has been <br />inactive since June 2001 after the closure of the Lorencito Mine (#C-96-084). The weather <br />was hot with afternoon thunderstorms threatening. Ground conditions on this day were <br />generally dry with some standing water in low spots. <br />Availability of Records <br />The public copy of the mine records is kept at the office of Peak Project Management (PPM) <br />The contact, address, and phone number for PPM is Ron Thompson, Peak Project <br />Management. 34115 County Road 20.8, Trirndad, CO 61082, 719-846-4975, The inspector <br />hand carried a cover letter dated May 31, 20D7 and water sample results for the New Elk <br />mine, site NEW-2 Records were found in compliance as detailed on page 2a of this report. <br />~rolo~c Balance <br />The mine site has received over four <br />inches of rainfall since the last inspection, <br />with afternoon showers nearly each day. <br />One storm event resulted in 3 inches of ~ ~ it <br />precipitation. H as; °,1~4~" <br />Pond 4 held a small amount of water in ti t:.~k ~ r;~ <br />the southeast corner, Containments near ~?%'~ ~ ,. , ` <br />the conveyor and at the West Mine were dry or holdrny small amounts of water. <br />Containments #2 at the West mine held water but containment #1 was dry, Ditches and <br />culverts passed flows without incident or damage. Perimeter ditches along the river were <br />found m good condition with no evidence of breaching or damage. <br />
