Otherwise the site is mostly pastureland with grass and annual weeds in a condition
similar to when it was acquired. During the June 19, 2006 inspection DBMS noted
Diffuse ICnapweed (Centawea diffuse) and Scotch Thistle (Onopordum tauricum) as
being prevalent around the North, South, and East perimeter of the site. The Division
noted the problem (Rule 3.1.10(b)) and directed submittal and'unplementation of a Weed
Control Technical Revision (1R).
During a subsequent site inspection by the Douglas County Weed Inspector (DCWI),
Jonathan Rife, at the Stevens Mine on August 29, 2006, noted Canada Thistle (Cirsium
atvense), which is an additional noxious weed other than the weeds noted above was at
scattered locations on the Stevens Mine site.
This Weed Control Plan has been developed to attempt to address all the noxious weed
control issues noted by DRMS and DCWI to date.
METHODOLOGY
Areas infested with tho identified noxious weeds within the pemtit boundary will be
addressed by initial assessment and sprayiag by a contractor with appropriate experience
in these matters. The qualified contractor will deem the liquid application(s) appropriate
and Acme Brick Company proposes to inform DRMS of weed control activities on an
annual basis as part of the permit Annual Report function a~ requirements.
Acme Brick Company envisions this is an annual ongoing process during each spring to
coahol noxious weeds before they propagate during the summer season. Specific
management techniques will be developed, implemented and documented using a
practical raix of cultural, mechanical, biological and chemical controls as deemed both
effective and cost-effective.
In general, the thistles and Diffuse ICnapwced will probably be controlled using
herbicides, particularly during the leaf developmem stage, but before the flowering stage
in early June. Thistles and Diffuse Knapweed will be treated in accordance with the
DCWI guidance, attached.
Further we plan to implement the plan es an integrated approach incorporation additional
weed comrol measures such as mowing, spot seed'wg, field harrowing, grazing, etc.,
which will be evaluated and implemented in coajunction with spraying as deemed
appropriate in consultation with ow weed control subcontractor. If standard measures are
not successful in eliminating the weed control problem within a reasonable amount of
time (approximately one to fow seasons of trratmeat) Acme Brick Company may contact
DRMS for addifional assistance.
