Mr. Wallace Erickson
December 4, 1997
Page 2
blade had been dropped and quite a few new roads had been made in a random
fashion. Also, one of these roads ran across the top of the cultural site and its
midden. Can I assume that you did not walk a large portion of the permit azea
since there is no mention of the larger trenches and the roads that have been
cut?
Since more trenches and numerous roads were cut, [believe that the
exploration area affected is more than your estimated 500 square feet. Since
the Act does not specifically state that there is a 1,600 square foot exclusion, I
believe that Mr. Stone should have submitted an "Exploration Notice° required
by the Act to engage in the exploration for construction materials. Also, was a
"Notice of Completion° of the exploration filed with the Board?
Since I am not familiar with "An Act" or "Construction Material Rules and
Regulations" it is possible that I have misinterpreted these regulations. If I
have not misinterpreted them, I believe that the above questions are serious
and need to be responded to as soon as possible. Also, if a trench was dug on
site 5MT2020, this is a violation of Section 106 of the National Historic
Preservation Act.
Thank you for your time and effort.
Sincerely,
Susie Campbell Bell
cc: Ms. Laverne Lemay
